Last week, DNA Legal’s forensic toxicologist, Dr. Salah E. Breidi was invited by The Rotary Club in Frome, Somerset to give an insight of forensic science to the local community. The Rotary Club is a charity based in Frome that works with different international communities to bring people together creating a positive, long-lasting change in communities around the world.
The main topic discussed during the afternoon was Death Estimation and Entomology; this involves the use of insects to determine the causes, time and place of the crime. Dr. Breidi demonstrated how body fluids and other samples such as insects can be used in the toxicology testing. An example of this is testing the digestive tract of the body for flesh feeding insects to see if the body had been exposed to drugs. Dr. Breidi also offered a 15 minute Q&A session giving the members of the club the opportunity to discuss the topic.
